Many cooking oils are extracted from seeds using solvents or refined with harsh chemicals. Although those methods are more efficient than expeller processing, the latter offers a cleaner label while also retaining more of the delicate flavor and fatty acids of the original oilseeds. This Whitepaper by Bunge explains the various methods of oil extraction, and the benefits of expeller pressing.

  • Sales of expeller-pressed cooking oils have jumped nearly 300% since 2011.
  • In the early 1900s, 60 to 80% of soybean crush was processed by the new expeller press method.
  • Bunge's Whole Harvest business offered the first expeller-pressed line of culinary oils for commercial applications.
